Skills Needs Compass
We are developing an anticipation data reporting system that combines important information on skills supply and anticipated demand. The new service will provide reliable and up-to-date information on future skills needs from the perspective of continuous learning. It will also combine information on skills and labour matching on both regional and national levels. The new service will be called the Skills Needs Compass.
Content of the new website
The content of the Skills Needs Compass website will be developed in phases during 2023 and 2024. Initially, the Skills Needs Compass will include statistical analysis of labour market transitions of employed persons between occupational sectors and transitions from employment to unemployment, study or economic inactivity. At the same time, we have compiled data on changes in the labour market and skills needs. We are also preparing analyses of education and skills gaps, using AI applications to anticipate skills needs and identify shortcomings in the availability of education and training.
Language versions of the website
For the time being, our new website will not be available in Swedish or English. However, we strive to expand the range of languages available in the future.
Constantly updated information platform
Our aim is to create an accessible, approachable and detailed anticipation data platform on skills needs. The Skills Needs Compass is an innovative tool that aims to address challenges of labour force and skills mismatch and improve knowledge-driven management. By combining different sources of information, it provides a more holistic view of a certain topic or phenomenon.
Supporting continuous learning and employment
The Skills Needs Compass is part of the statutory task of the Service Centre for Continuous Learning and Employment in analysing anticipation data on skills and labour needs in working life. The development and maintenance of the service is a central and concrete part of fulfilling this task.

Target groups of the website
The website is specifically designed for education and training service providers, as well as providers and developers of information, guidance and counselling services. Education and training providers and guidance services can utilise the information in the service to support individual choices regarding education, training and career planning, as well as to anticipate the development needs of their own service offering.
Background
The Skills Needs Compass is part of the Anticipation Data Service project initiated in 2022. The aim of the project is to develop a novel reporting system for the anticipation of short and medium-term labour and skills needs. The project will be developed with the support of the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) from 2022 to 2024.
Publication of the website
We aim to launch the Skills Needs Compass website by the end of 2023. We will announce the launch separately on our website and social media.
We hope that the upcoming anticipation data service will help our stakeholders gain valuable insights into future skills needs and promote continuous learning and employment in Finland.
